The Monticello Magic will head out on the road to face off against the Chisago Lakes Area Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Monticello will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
Monticello was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Zimmerman on Monday. The Magic blew past the Thunder 13-1. The Magic haven't had any issues with the Thunder recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Koen Schlangen looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
At the plate, Easton Peters was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Brock Holthaus was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Monticello was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Zimmerman only posted a batting average of .263.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Chisago Lakes Area made sure to put some runs up on the board against Becker on Monday. The Wildcats came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bulldogs, sneaking past 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted against the Bulldogs since April 29, 2021.
Lucas Weinzetl and Brayden Anderson did most of the damage at the plate: Weinzetl went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Anderson got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one double. Weinzetl also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Xander Breitenbach, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base.
Monticello's record is now 10-4. As for Chisago Lakes Area, their record now sits at 5-9.
Everything went Monticello's way against Chisago Lakes Area when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Monticello made off with an 8-2 win. Will the Magic repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
