Sabino has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Mohave Thunderbirds at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Sabino had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They came out on top against Round Valley by a score of 28-20.
Cameron Hackworth continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 151 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 218 yards and a touchdown while completing 75% of his passes. Hackworth was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 67 yards. Zachary Binford-Wiggins and his 87 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Sabino's victory.
Meanwhile, Mohave put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 54-14 victory over Blue Ridge at home. With Mohave ahead 35-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Mohave found their leader in underclassman Joe Yoney JR, who rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries, and also threw for 137 yards and three touchdowns. Isac Urias was another key contributor, gaining 82 total yards and four touchdowns.
Sabino has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Mohave, they pushed their record up to 11-1 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.
Sabino didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Mohave when the teams last played back in October, but they still walked away with a 34-29 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sabino since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
