The Cumberland Gap Panthers pushed their score all the way to 57 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 65-57 to Pineville. Cumberland Gap has not had much luck with Pineville recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kolton Goins, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds. That was a full 38.6% of Cumberland Gap's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Harris, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds.
Cumberland Gap has been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 14 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-19 record this season. As for Pineville, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-6.
Cumberland Gap will head out on the road to face off against Cherokee at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Cumberland Gap knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Cherokee likes a good challenge. As for Pineville, they will head out on the road to challenge Harlan County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Pineville's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
