The Union Academy Cardinals will be playing at home against the South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Union Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 537th, while South Stanly is ranked 220th).
Last Tuesday, things could have been worse for Union Academy, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 64-47 loss to Charlotte Latin.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Aidan Scruitsky, who scored 14 points along with two steals. Everett Wease was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six assists.
He wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Union Academy were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. This was only their ninth loss (out of 12 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Meanwhile, South Stanly entered their tilt with North Rowan with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. South Stanly skirted past North Rowan 65-63. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Union Academy's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for South Stanly, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-2.
Union Academy might still be hurting after the 63-42 loss they got from South Stanly in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Union Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
