Pius X and Lincoln East are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2017, but not for long. The Pius X Thunderbolts will head out on the road to challenge the Lincoln East Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Pius X's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
In what's become a running theme this season, Pius X gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Lincoln High 77-48 on the road. Given Pius X's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 28th, while Lincoln High is ranked 193rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Treyson Anderson was his usual excellent self, scoring 30 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Pius X's points. Parker Kelly was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Lincoln East lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Tuesday was a bit more commanding. They were dealt a 73-46 loss at the hands of Lincoln North Star. Lincoln East has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lincoln East's defeat came about despite a quality game from Carter Mick, who scored 23 points. Mick continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Connor Johnson, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Pius X has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Lincoln East, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Pius X hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 66.9 points per game. However, it's not like Lincoln East struggles in that department as they've been averaging 57 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Pius X came up short against Lincoln East in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 58-53. Can Pius X avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
