Chattanooga Prep had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.1 points) and they went ahead and made it eight on Saturday. They rang in the new year with a 54-42 victory over the Memphis East Mustangs. Given the Sentinels' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Mustangs are ranked 82nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Chattanooga Prep's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cadence Collins led the charge by putting up eight points along with eight assists and three steals. The dominant performance gave Collins a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Derrick Roberson, who posted ten points and six boards.

Chattanooga Prep's win bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Memphis East, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-4.

Chattanooga Prep will square off against Cane Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on January 11th. As for Memphis East, they will welcome Memphis Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Memphis Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Memphis East likes a good challenge.
