The Pilgrim Patriots will face off against the Coventry Oakers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Pilgrim is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
Last Saturday, Pilgrim didn't have quite enough to beat Toll Gate and fell 8-7.
Derrick Butler was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits.
On the hitting side, Henry Kearns was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Donovan Vermette also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Coventry came out on top against Mt. Hope on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Oakers walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Huskies. The Oakers haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Andrew Rapose spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. He has become a key player for Coventry: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-8 otherwise.
At the plate, Alex Donehower was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Riley, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Pilgrim's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Coventry, their victory bumped their record up to 5-9.
Pilgrim came out on top in a nail-biter against Coventry in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Oakers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
