The Oxford Pirates lost against the Prouty Panthers back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Oxford suffered a rough 71-47 defeat at the hands of Prouty. While losing is never fun, Oxford can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while Prouty is ranked second).
When it comes to explaining why Oxford lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brady Marqoupis. Despite the final result, he scored 15 points. The contest was Marqoupis' fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Remington, who scored ten points.
This is the second loss in a row for Oxford and nudges their season record down to 1-3. As for Prouty, their win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oxford will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Nipmuc Regional at 2:30 p.m. on December 29th. As for Prouty, they will head out on the road to face off against Sutton at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
