If the Daniel Lions were riding high off their 94-74 takedown of the Walhalla Razorbacks on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Daniel took a 66-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Eastside. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Daniel's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ian Williams, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Simms Disbrow, who scored 17 points.
Even though they lost, Daniel were working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastside only racked up ten assists.
Justin Ray was his usual excellent self, scoring 30 points for Eastside. The match was Ray's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of DJ Kelley, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Daniel's loss dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Eastside, their victory bumped their record up to 12-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Daniel will square off against West-Oak at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully West-Oak focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Friday. Eastside and Greer will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Greer's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six contests.
