Softball Recap: Cousino Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Cousino, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over the Lamphere Rams on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won three in a row.

Haley Neal made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Neal was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, Cousino let Carly Greathouse and Davi Wieczorek run wild. Greathouse got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Wieczorek went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriella Gaceferi, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Cousino always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Cousino's win bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Lamphere, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cousino will welcome Center Line at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 20.5 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Lamphere, they will host Port Huron at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
