The Porter-Gaud Cyclones's game on Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They escaped with a win against Woodland by the margin of a single free throw, 49-48. Given Porter-Gaud's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while Woodland is ranked 210th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Woodland's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Lyniah Kitt, who scored 20 points, and Kah'Liyah Geddis who scored 16 points. Geddis scored a full 33.3% of Woodland's points, the 13th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Porter-Gaud has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for Woodland, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Porter-Gaud will face off against Pinewood Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Woodland, they will head out on the road to face off against Ridgeland-Hardeeville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Ridgeland-Hardeeville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 two weeks ago.
