The T.W. Andrews Red Raiders scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They skirted past Morehead 78-75. The win was all the more spectacular given T.W. Andrews' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 392nd, while Morehead is ranked 161st).
When it comes to explaining why Morehead lost, one person who can't be blamed is Makel Smith. Despite the final result, he scored 34 points along with three steals and two blocks. Smith is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 23 or more in the last six games he's played. Avery Bigelow was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
T.W. Andrews' win bumped their record up to 7-16. As for Morehead, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-8 record this season.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Walkertown the next time they take the court. Morehead will head out to face Walkertown at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while T.W. Andrews will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
