The Big Valley Cardinals were the 44-34 winner over the Surprise Valley Hornets when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Big Valley fell 43-33 to Surprise Valley on Thursday. Big Valley's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Josue Barba was Big Valley's leading scorer, having posted ten points.
Trent Farber held things down on the boards with 11 rebounds.
Casey Grove continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Surprise Valley, scoring 23 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Grove has scored at least a third of Surprise Valley's points. Andrew Eichstadt was another key contributor, scoring five points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Big Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Surprise Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-7 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Big Valley will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Bethel Christian at 5:00 p.m. on January 23rd. That game will pit two of the most dominant against one another: Braden Johnson and Kade Lemke. As for Surprise Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Butte Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
