Kara Mekulsia made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ally Negin, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna LaMarco, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.
Madison always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Conneaut only posted an OBP of .150.
Meanwhile, Mayfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 13-1 to Chardon.
Mayfield saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Pinzone, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Madison's victory bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Mayfield, their loss dropped their record down to 5-11.
Madison's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Blue Streaks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Mayfield, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Madison continue to outrun the ball?
Madison beat Mayfield 5-0 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Blue Streaks repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
