Roanoke Rapids is 8-2 against Bunn since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets will look to defend their home field against the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Roanoke Rapids had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 17-run drubbing they dealt Rocky Mount on Monday. The Yellowjackets never let the Gryphons get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. The Yellowjackets' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Morgan Beam and Kyla Odom did most of the damage at the plate: Beam went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Odom got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Odom has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Brishawna Crumel, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Bunn came tearing into Monday's match with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over the Bulldogs.
Emily Baez made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Baez was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Bunn got a massive performance out of Madeline Bryson, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Brooke Harrah was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Bunn hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 11 consecutive contests.
Bunn's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Roanoke Rapids, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.
Bunn's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Roanoke Rapids has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game.
