The Newark Norsemen will venture away from home to face off against the Plano Reapers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Newark is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Newark came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Coal City, falling 8-2. The Norsemen's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Newark saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was David Ulrich, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Plano came out on top against Harvard on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run third inning. The Reapers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-10 win over the Hornets. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Reapers have posted since March 17th.
Quentin Santoria was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Plano's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 4-2 (and 4-16 when he doesn't). Santoria was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jason Phillips, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Amari Bryant, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Plano kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Newark's loss dropped their record down to 11-15. As for Plano, they moved to 8-18 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
Newark might still be hurting after the 13-3 defeat they got from Plano in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Norsemen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
