Softball Recap: Libertyville Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

Libertyville had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Saturday. They came out on top against the Vernon Hills Cougars by a score of 6-2. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Wildcats also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2023.

Sofia Lombardo and Zoe Kinsella did most of the damage at the plate: Lombardo went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Kinsella went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Lombardo has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Callie Hill, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Libertyville's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Vernon Hills, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Libertyville will take on Warren Township at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Vernon Hills, they will square off against Evanston at 4:45 p.m. on Monday.
