If the Pearland Oilers were riding high off their 62-40 takedown of the Alief Hastings Bears last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Pearland fell 62-51 to the Sharks on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Pearland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 212th, while the Sharks are ranked 14th).
Despite the defeat, Pearland saw an underclassman step up: Avin Glover scored 16 points along with five rebounds and two steals. It was the first time this season that Glover scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Austin, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Pearland were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shadow Creek only racked up three assists.
Shadow Creek's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Michael Collins, who scored 21 points. Collins hasn't dropped below 19 points for ten straight games. Julian Cuillier was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with three steals.
Pearland's loss dropped their record down to 16-12. As for Shadow Creek, the win was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 24-2.
Pearland will head out on the road to take on the Rams at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Alief Elsik is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Shadow Creek, they will be playing at home against the Bears at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Alief Hastings is no doubt hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses.
