Baseball Recap: Straughn Wins Going Away Against Pike County

While Straughn put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Pike County. Everything went the Straughn Tigers' way against the Pike County Bulldogs as the Straughn Tigers made off with an 11-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won six contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Matt Ashberry, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Straughn is 6-1 when Ashberry posts two or more runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Tate Watson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Straughn is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. Pike County dropped their record down to 1-10 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Straughn will head out to face off against Brantley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Pike County, they will venture away from home to challenge Abbeville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Pike County is facing Abbeville at the right time seeing as Abbeville is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
