The Rockwood Rockets are taking a road trip to square off against the Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Rockwood comes in on three and Claysburg-Kimmel on 19.
On Thursday, Rockwood was able to grind out a solid win over North Star, taking the game 9-5.
Sydney Beals spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on ten hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Miley Pletcher, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Elika Pletcher was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Rockwood hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.
Berlin Brothersvalley typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Claysburg-Kimmel proved too difficult a challenge. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Mountaineers. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by seven runs or more this season.
Launa Musselman made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Claysburg-Kimmel let Bella Francona and McKenna Black run wild. Francona got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs, while Black got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs Francona has posted since back in April.
Claysburg-Kimmel pushed their record up to 19-0 with the victory, which was their 11th straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Rockwood, their record is now 7-11.
