East Central extended their winning streak to eight on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 16-12 in the process. They walked away with an 8-5 win over the Wayne County War Eagles. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-2 on Tuesday.
Jaxon Cripps was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. East Central is undefeated when Cripps posts two or more runs, but 9-12 otherwise. Matthew Combs was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.
As for Wayne County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-12 record this season. As for they, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-12.
On Wayne County's side, Brayson Graham put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. Graham has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
In other pitching news, Wayne County got a good showing from Reece Freeman, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Freeman gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March.
Back at the plate, Hudsen Mills was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Dallen Holifield, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
East Central will have a chance to go back-to-back against Wayne County: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
