The Bishop Timon-St. Jude Tigers are taking a road trip to take on the Depew Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Bishop Timon-St. Jude is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
Bishop Timon-St. Jude will bounce into Friday's match after beating St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Tigers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Marauders a 5-0 shutout on Tuesday.
The result came thanks to Brendan Gossling's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up 16 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Bishop Timon-St. Jude is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-2 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Wes Miller, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. He also scored a run, marking his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Depew got the win against Cheektowaga on Tuesday by a conclusive 7-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.
Not much got past Jeff Nawojski, who gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks to keep Cheektowaga off the board. Nawojski has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Justin Refermat was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.4 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Manna, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Depew was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cheektowaga only posted a batting average of .053.
Depew now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Bishop Timon-St. Jude, their record now sits at 4-2.
Bishop Timon-St. Jude couldn't quite get it done against Depew in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 as they fell 10-5. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
