Chesterton has gone a perfect 10-0 against Michigan City recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Trojans will look to defend their home field against the Wolves at 4:30 p.m. Chesterton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Chesterton took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against New Prairie, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Trojans had just enough and edged out the Cougars 9-8. The game was the first time the Trojans have beaten the Cougars on their field since May 13, 2021.
Lila Miller and Jillienne Pittman did most of the damage at the plate: Miller went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Pittman went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Miller has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Demeter, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles.
Chesterton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three contest, Michigan City brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They blew past Marquette Catholic 21-4 on Monday. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Blazers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Ann Sawyer was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Sawyer was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Michigan City got a massive performance out of Paulecia Isom, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Isom has posted since back in April of 2024. A'Zealiah Turner was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Chesterton has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. Michigan City's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-10.
Michigan City's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Chesterton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. It's a different story for Michigan City, though, as they've only averaged .224. Will they be able to contain Chesterton's hitters?
Everything went Chesterton's way against Michigan City in their previous matchup on April 8th, as Chesterton made off with a 17-1 victory. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
