The Corona del Sol Aztecs''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell 28-21 to Brophy College Prep. Corona del Sol was down 28-7 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Corona del Sol's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Raiden Vines-bright, who picked up 140 receiving yards and a touchdown, and Connor Ackerley who threw for 250 yards and a touchdown. Vines-bright was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 66 yards.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Brophy College Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Charlie McGinnis, who threw for 246 yards and a touchdown while completing 81.5% of his passes. Brophy College Prep also got a significant boost from Carlos Estrada, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 92 yards.
Corona del Sol has fallen quite a ways from their 8-3 record last season and are now at 2-6. As for Brophy College Prep, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Corona del Sol will square off against Desert Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Desert Vista is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. As for Brophy College Prep, they will head out on the road to face off against Mountain Pointe at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Mountain Pointe is ranked 32nd, while Brophy College Prep is ranked 13th).
