Seymour has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge The Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic Yellowjackets at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Seymour will be strutting in after a win while Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Friday, Seymour really took it to Wolcott for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-6 victory at home. Seymour pushed the score to 42-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Wolcott had no chance of recovering from.
Seymour's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Anthony Cortello, who threw for 131 yards and four touchdowns on only ten passes. Noah Prodan and his 83 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Seymour's victory.
Seymour's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. Leading the way was Caden Miller and his four sacks.
Meanwhile, Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell to Watertown 12-7.
The losing side was boosted by Nolan Risedorf, who rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries.
Seymour's win bumped their record up to 3-3. As for Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-4.
Saturday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Seymour has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 185.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 184 per game. It's looking like Saturday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
