Riverbend is 0-10 against Massaponax since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Riverbend Bears will look to defend their home court against the Massaponax Panthers at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Riverbend posted their biggest victory since December 6, 2023 on Friday. They put the hurt on Brooke Point with a sharp 69-43 victory. Given Riverbend's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 149th, while Brooke Point is ranked 368th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hannah Alexander was her usual excellent self, scoring 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Charlotte Mullinax was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, Massaponax scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Stafford 77-22 at home. Winning may never get old, but Massaponax sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Riverbend pushed their record up to 8-3 with that victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.1 points per game. As for Massaponax, their win bumped their record up to 12-3.
Riverbend came up short against Massaponax in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 65-59. Thankfully for Riverbend, Lakaiya Butcher (who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
