Marquette is a perfect 10-0 against Midland since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Crusaders will be playing at home against the Timberwolves at 4:30 p.m. Marquette is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.5 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Marquette got the win against Putnam County by a conclusive 10-4. Considering the Crusaders have won 14 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Taylor Cuchra and Makayla Backos did most of the damage at the plate: Cuchra went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Backos went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most doubles Backos has posted since back in April. Hunter Hopkins was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Midland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 15th straight loss. They fell 9-6 to Dwight.
Maggie Dorsey made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Cheyenne Wildey, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Midland's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Marquette, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That somehow still isn't as good as their 20-6 record this season.
Midland's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Marquette has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. It's a different story for Midland, though, as they've only averaged .346. Will they be able to contain Marquette's hitters?
Everything went Marquette's way against Midland in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Marquette made off with a 14-1 victory. Do the Crusaders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Timberwolves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
