Basketball Game Preview: West Point-Beemer Cadets vs. Schuyler Warriors

West Point-Beemer is 9-0 against Schuyler since January of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The West Point-Beemer Cadets will be playing at home against the Schuyler Warriors at 6:00 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

West Point-Beemer fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Battle Creek on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Braves by a score of 42-39. The Cadets' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Loss or not, West Point-Beemer got some senior leadership from Allie Kaup and Mia Hunke. Kaup went 6 for 13 on her way to 15 points in addition to seven boards and five steals, while Hunke dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hunke has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Toelle, who posted seven points along with nine assists and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Schuyler took a blow against Seward on Tuesday, falling 56-11. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 173rd, while the Bluejays are ranked 37th).

West Point-Beemer's defeat dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Schuyler, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.

Everything came up roses for West Point-Beemer against Schuyler when the teams last played back in January of 2023, as the squad secured a 51-12 victory. In that matchup, West Point-Beemer amassed a halftime lead of 34-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
