The Rowan County Vikings are taking a road trip to square off against the Morgantown Mohigans at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Rowan County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Rowan County's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Notre Dame Academy with a sharp 7-0 victory. Considering the Vikings have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Kassi Perkins made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lauryn Eastham, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Kelbie Ford, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Morgantown won against Preston on Thursday with five runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Mohigans walked away with a 5-2 win over Cicero-North Syracuse. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mohigans.
MADISON WISMAN spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 14 Ks.
On the hitting side, CARPER MESSERLY was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of BETH ROBINSON, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
Rowan County now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Morgantown, their record now sits at 6-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Rowan County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Morgantown struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
