Magee hasn't had much luck against Pisgah recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Magee will head out to challenge Pisgah at 7:00 p.m. Magee's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Pisgah's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Magee's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over Hazlehurst. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Jeremiah Cole was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Cole was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kendal Middleton and Sawyer Chafin did most of the damage at the plate: Middleton scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Chafin scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Middleton a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Carson Harper, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Magee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Pisgah beat Raleigh 7-3 on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Dragons in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won five in a row.
Magee has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. Pisgah pushed their record up to 12-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Magee has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .478. However, it's not like Pisgah struggles in that department as they've averaged .450. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Magee suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Pisgah in their previous meeting back in February. Can Magee avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
