The Armstrong Trojans will head out on the road to take on the Oakwood Comets at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Armstrong gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 21-10 margin over Seeger. The win was familiar territory for the Trojans, who have now won five matchups in a row.
Meanwhile, Oakwood never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past Chrisman 16-0. The Comets haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Caydence Vermillion made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Irene Rangel, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Gracie Hanner was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Oakwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chrisman only posted an OBP of .214.
Armstrong pushed their record up to 13-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for Oakwood, their record now sits at 12-8-1.
Armstrong came up short against Oakwood when the teams last played back in March, falling 4-1. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
