The Avondale Yellowjackets will take on the Seaholm Maples at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Avondale's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Southfield Arts & Tech as they made off with a 15-0 win. The Yellowjackets haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Cooper Stepp made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Stepp was also solid in the batter's box, earning two RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Natheer Huskic, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Paul Scherbarth was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Avondale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Seaholm entered their tilt with Ferndale on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They blew past the Eagles 19-0. The Maples' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Like Avondale, Seaholm also got a great game from a two-way player: Brandon Gottesman. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gottesman was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Keegan Jordan was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Casey Goetz, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Seaholm pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Avondale, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Avondale hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Seaholm struggles in that department as they've averaged .360. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Avondale suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Seaholm in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Yellowjackets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
