Martinsburg fell victim to Spring Mills and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Cardinals, falling 8-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Bulldogs' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Martinsburg saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tianna Sanabria, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Hedgesville never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Berkeley Springs on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 16-1 victory.
Maggie Boyer was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Hedgesville got a massive performance out of Mayla Ortega, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Ortega has posted since back in May of 2024. Kayla Burns was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Hedgesville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .630. They are 6-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Martinsburg's loss dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Hedgesville, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-10-1.
Martinsburg might still be hurting after the 27-6 defeat they got from Hedgesville when the teams last played back in March. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
