The Jacobs Eagles will head out to take on the Central Rockets at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Jacobs is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Jacobs after they put the first run on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Prairie Ridge. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Audrey Wetzel made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Talia Disilvio, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Central suffered their closest defeat since March 20th on Saturday. They fell just short of Geneva by a score of 8-6. Rockets fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Vikings since Saturday.
Isabelle Reed spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits.
At the plate, Madison Butler and Samantha Sieverding did some serious damage despite the final result: Butler went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Sieverding went 1-for-4 with one home run.
Jacobs' loss dropped their record down to 11-13. As for Central, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Jacobs hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Jacobs couldn't quite finish off Central in their previous matchup on April 10th and fell 5-3. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
