For the first time this season, Poland Seminary will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will welcome the Hubbard Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Saturday, Poland Seminary made easy work of Brooke and carried off a 12-1 win.
Madison Medvec made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Medvec was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elliana Thompson, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Leanna Boccieri, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Poland Seminary always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brooke only posted an OBP of .211.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hubbard, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Sharon on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since April 29, 2024.
Kaylee Schultz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Hubbard got a big performance out of Layla Songer, who scored a run while going 1-for-1. Songer also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Lauren Komorek was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Hubbard's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Poland Seminary, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Both Poland Seminary and Hubbard just can't seem to miss. Poland Seminary has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Hubbard struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Poland Seminary skirted past Hubbard 5-4 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Does Poland Seminary have another victory up their sleeve, or will Hubbard turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
