South Medford is 8-2 against South Eugene since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Panthers will venture away from home to take on the Axe at 4:30 p.m. South Medford will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
South Medford came out on top against Willamette on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fifth inning. The Panthers put the hurt on the Wolverines with a sharp 10-4 win. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.
Aliyah Gomez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on three hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, Aubree Joe was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. Hanna Turpin was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: South Medford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, South Eugene made sure to put some runs up on the board against Willamette on Saturday. The Axe came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wolverines, sneaking past 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Axe have posted against the Wolverines since April 3, 2023.
South Medford's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-7. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for South Eugene, their win ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-15.
Everything went South Medford's way against South Eugene in their previous meeting back in April, as South Medford made off with a 23-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
