If the Cook Hornets were feeling good off their 76-41 takedown of the Berrien Rebels last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cook fell to Worth County 48-44. Cook was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Worth County apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Cook lost on Friday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Reshauld Tippins, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Tippins pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Keshun McKever, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Worth County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but SHERMON SMITH led the charge by scoring eight points along with 11 rebounds and seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of ASHTON WILLIAMS, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and six steals.
Cook's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Worth County, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cook won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Jeff Davis at 7:30 p.m. on January 13th. Jeff Davis has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 203 points over their last three matches. As for Worth County, they will head out on the road to face off against Sumter County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sumter County has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 1-2 during that stretch of close contests.
