Jay and Stevens are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Jay Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Stevens Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Jay is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Jay posted their closest victory yet this season on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Warren and snuck past 51-49. Given Jay's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 169th, while Warren is ranked 601st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Elijah Baldwin, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 13 games he's played. Jaiden Guillen was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Meanwhile, Stevens strolled past Holmes with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 70-51.
Jay's victory bumped their record up to 18-6. As for Stevens, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season.
Jay didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Stevens when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 85-81 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Stevens' Amare Parham, who dropped a double-double on 49 points and 18 rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Jay still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
