WPIAL AAA Big Nine recap September 24, 2013
West Mifflin added to the longest winning streak in WPIAL AAA Big Nine this week by beating Albert Gallatin, 56-12. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Titans.
Elizabeth Forward scaled the state rankings by moving to 162 from 189 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Warriors were able to move up by beating Belle Vernon 35-13.
Nico Law threw for 241 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 12-19 with 0 interception.
Kevin Garbark was the best wideout in the league this week as West Mifflin topped the Colonials. Garbark tallied 2 receptions for 106 yards.
Law put up the best numbers in passing as Ringgold topped Uniontown. Law's favorite target this week was Luke Baldesberger, who caught 4 passes for 78 yards.
James Wheeler was the most successful running back in WPIAL AAA Big Nine this week. He ran for 223 yards on 15 carries as Ray Braszo's team bested Albert Gallatin. Teammate Garbark added to the ground attack by rushing for 62 yards.
Wheeler was a beast in the backfield as the Titans defeated Jeff Rush's team.
6-foot-1 quarterback Law of the Rams is the league leader in passing yards this season with 681. He has also thrown 9 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Garbark. The West Mifflin star has 7 catches for 326 yards.
West Mifflin's Wheeler is a mere 54 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. Wheeler has rushed for 946 yards on 79 carries so far this year.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when the Titans' Garbark goes up against Matt Humbert's team's Brandon Heinzlemen.
