Pascagoula (Miss.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 6 in Mississippi, but was stunned by
Starkville (Miss.), 28-11. Starkville was ranked at No. 9 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Mississippi coming into the week.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Gabe Myles to
Darius Grayer in the first quarter, the Yellowjackets led 21-3 at the half.
Starkville saw its 18-point halftime lead fall to 10 entering the fourth.
With the win SHS extended its winning streak to 11 games. The Yellowjackets defeated the Green Wave 29-28 last week.
Myles stood out for Starkville in the win. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 12 touchdowns on the season.
The Panthers'
Grant Warren played well. The senior kicked three field goals. His performance brought his touchdown total to zero on the year.
SHS had given up an average of 12.4 points prior to the contest. The 11 points that Pascagoula ended with were well below its average of 24.3 coming into the game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Pascagoula, which notched a 17-10 victory over Pearl River Central in its previous outing. The loss snapped PHS's 3-game winning streak.
