Meridian and Capital are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. The Warriors will host the Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meridian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Meridian managed to slip by Kuna the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Warriors lost 9-2 to the Kavemen on Tuesday. The game marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Penelope Klinger was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Alexia Flygare, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Capital, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Everything went their way against Ridgevue on Tuesday as they made off with a 14-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Golden Eagles, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Audrey McKibben, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Olivia Stone was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
Capital was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. They are 10-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meridian's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Capital, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 10-5.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Meridian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .481. However, it's not like Capital struggles in that department as they've averaged .502. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Meridian might still be hurting after the 16-5 defeat they got from Capital in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Warriors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
