Baseball Recap: Ida Baker Wins Going Away Against Cape Coral

Ida Baker won the last time they faced Cape Coral and things went their way on Thursday too. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Seahawks with a sharp 15-8 victory. Considering the Bulldogs have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Nick Longo was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Ida Baker got a massive performance out of Aiden Long, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances. Long is becoming a predictor of the Bulldogs' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-11 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Cole Lewis, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

The win made it two in a row for Ida Baker and bumps their season record up to 9-11. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Cape Coral, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-15.

Looking ahead, Ida Baker will face off against Lehigh at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs are facing the Lightning at the right time seeing as the Lightning are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. Cape Coral does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
