The Rosman Tigers waltzed into their game Friday with four straight wins but they left with five. They came out on top against Avery County by a score of 61-51. That's another feather in the cap for Rosman, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Leading Rosman to victory were Lexi Powell (sykes) and Alissa Cheek. Powell (sykes) scored 22 points, while Cheek scored 25 points. The contest was Powell (sykes)'s fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Marlee Carnathan, who scored eight points.
Despite the loss, Avery County saw an underclassman step up: Caroline Hollifield scored 20 points along with seven rebounds. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoie Mcclarrin, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Rosman pushed their record up to 7-1 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points per game. As for Avery County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Rosman will be home for the holidays to greet Mountain Heritage at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain Heritage presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Rosman in North Carolina (Mountain Heritage is ranked 40th, while Rosman is ranked 201st). As for Avery County, they will head out on the road to face off against Draughn at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
