The Riverside Warriors's five-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Friday. They walked away with a 47-35 win over Lincoln County. That looming 47-35 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Riverside yet this season.
Riverside got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Riley Starsick out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Starsick scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Ava Ward, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 18 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Lincoln County had strong showings from Abbie Jeffers, who scored ten points along with six rebounds, and Chevelle Salmons, who scored nine points along with five rebounds. Jeffers continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Riverside's win bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Lincoln County, they bumped their record down to 1-6 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Riverside will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Oak Hill at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in West Virginia (Oak Hill is ranked 71st, while Riverside is ranked 80th). Lincoln County's road trip will continue as they head out to face Summers County at 2:00 p.m. on December 29th. Summers County will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
