The Somerset Academy - Canyons Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Atlantic Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Somerset Academy - Canyons knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Atlantic likes a good challenge.
Somerset Academy - Canyons barely beat Leonard the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Somerset Academy - Canyons was the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over Leonard on Tuesday. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Lancers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Brock Shaffer was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Shaffer was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, AJ Fernandez and Boyton Zulick did most of the damage at the plate: Fernandez went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run, while Zulick scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That triple was Fernandez's first of the season. Tyler Watters was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Somerset Academy - Canyons hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Atlantic lost 19-4 to Palm Beach Gardens on Tuesday.
Atlantic saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon Thompson, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.
Somerset Academy - Canyons' record now sits at 7-3. As for Atlantic, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Somerset Academy - Canyons has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Atlantic struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Somerset Academy - Canyons' way against Atlantic in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Somerset Academy - Canyons made off with an 11-5 win.
