Basketball Recap: Countryside Christian's Win Ends Eight-Game Losing Streak at Home

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Countryside Christian). They put the hurt on the Cornerstone Academy Cougars with a sharp 68-46 victory on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Minutemen sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Despite the defeat, Cornerstone Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jared Owens went 8 of 14 on his way to 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Owens has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Micah Whing, who posted eight points and eight rebounds.

Countryside Christian's win ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-1. As for Cornerstone Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Countryside Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 66-54 loss against Aucilla Christian on the 13th. As for Cornerstone Academy, they will venture away from home to face off against Meadowbrook Academy at 6:00 p.m. on December 19th. Meadowbrook Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.7 points per game this season.
