St. Bernard-Elmwood Place hasn't had much luck against Cincinnati Country Day recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Titans will head out on the road to take on the Nighthawks at 5:00 p.m. St. Bernard-Elmwood Place is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
On Friday, St. Bernard-Elmwood Place was able to grind out a solid victory over New Miami, taking the game 9-4. The win continues a trend for the Titans in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won three in a row.
Jason Helphinstein made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Lucas Cannady was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Aiden Rack was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Cincinnati Country Day beat Carlisle 6-2 on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Nighthawks.
Casey Newman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Elijah Guttman, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Patrick Ramage also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Cincinnati Country Day was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .385 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Cincinnati Country Day pushed their record up to 13-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for St. Bernard-Elmwood Place, their record is now 13-6.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. St. Bernard-Elmwood Place hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .370. However, it's not like Cincinnati Country Day struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Bernard-Elmwood Place might still be hurting after the 16-0 defeat they got from Cincinnati Country Day in their previous matchup back in April of 2019. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
