If the Apache Junction Prospectors were riding high off their 54-26 takedown of the Superior Panthers last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Apache Junction's rough 61-41 defeat to Goldwater on Thursday might stick with them for a while. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Apache Junction in their matchups with Goldwater: they've now lost three in a row.
Apache Junction's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Tucker Barks, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Josh Castro who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. Omar Adam was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Leading Goldwater to victory were Eddie Barbour and Marcus Williams. Barbour scored nine points along with five steals, while Williams scored 14 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barbour has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Korbin Mroczek, who scored nine points.
Apache Junction bumped their record down to 1-1 with that loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Goldwater, their victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Apache Junction will square off against Poston Butte at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Poston Butte focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Wednesday. As for Goldwater, they will head out on the road to face off against San Luis at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
