Suburban One - American recap October 8, 2013
Upper Moreland was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in Suburban One - American. The Bears beat Norristown 21-20 earlier in the week.
Upper Dublin added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Cheltenham, 49-14. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Cardinals.
Manny Jones was a passing and rushing force as Plymouth Whitemarsh beat Wissahickon. Jones' key target this week was James Rodgers, who caught 3 passes for 34 yards.
Connor Hanlon and Jones gave the Colonials a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Hanlon threw for 79 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Jones ran for 157 yards. Teammate Brian Afflick added to the ground attack by rushing for 125 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Carmen Fortino and Jequan Mitchell, Upper Merion Area has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Fortino leads the league in passing with 730 yards, while Mitchell has rushed for 798 yards this season. Plymouth Whitemarsh's Rodgers leads the league in receiving yards with 451 on 25 catches.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Dan Chang's team's Rodgers goes up against the Vikings' Greg Crowder.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Upper Dublin takes on Upper Moreland. As it stands, Bret Stover's team is in first, while Dave Heying's team is in fourth.
The Cardinals took down the Panthers 49-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
