Vanden extended their winning streak (dating back to last season) to 12 on Friday, bumping them up to 3-0. They came within four points of losing the streak, but they secured a 14-10 W against the Dublin Gaels. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Vikings' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Gaels are ranked 391st).
Vanden didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Anthony Claytor Hunkin, Caleb Jones, and Connor Burritt picked up one apiece. Burritt is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least six every time he's taken the field this season. Vanden got some further help from Jayden Marquez Cook: he made 16 total tackles.
As for Dublin, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1. Having soared to a lofty 42 points in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.
When it comes to explaining why Dublin lost, don't look at Andre Armendariz. Despite the final result, he picked up 110 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 111 yards. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 74 yards.
